Scherbakov's series of "Godowsky: Piano Works" began in 1996. Conceived in 1894 by the 23-year-old Godowsky, and finally completed some 20 years later, the 53 exercises from Chopin's Etudes are the first of Godowsky's works for piano to be released. The music critic Harold Schoenberg described it as "the most difficult work ever written for the piano." Godowsky's original arrangements of Chopin's Etudes, which were originally difficult to play, made them even more difficult to play. The arrangements are interesting not only for performers but also for listeners, as they all have complex voices, intertwined melodies, and in some cases have been altered so much that they no longer resemble the original pieces. The second collection includes works that are the very best of the best, such as tracks 28 and 29, which attempt to play several exercises at once.Godowsky is also a great admirer of Op.10-5, known as the "Etude in Black Keys," and has developed seven versions of this piece alone.
