Description:
The latest recording of the secret works of the genius composer, who "surpasses Rameau" in his devotion to Niquet! Hervé Nicquet, a conductor of exceptional talent, has been at the forefront of the French Baroque revival for several decades, and has given a series of masterful performances not only of Baroque music, but also of French music from the Romantic period onward. He is not concerned about the current fame of composers, but is eager to discover works that are rarely performed, and he lavishes praise on Boismortier, a popular composer who achieved self-sufficiency as a freelance composer earlier than anyone else in the 18th century, calling him "a progressive composer ahead of his contemporary Rameau. He has recorded "Don Quixote at the Duchesse de Versailles" for NAXOS (8.553647) and released it on video on ALPHA (ALPHA711), and now he has re-recorded it on CD in Versailles. The Duchess holds an amateur show to make fun of Don Quixote, who wanders into her estate with her follower Sancho Panza, and plays tricks on them in the guise of Artisidore and the Empress of Nippon. The main characters, Don Quixote and the Duchess, are brilliantly performed by Vidal and Santon-Jeffery, two of the best singers at the forefront of contemporary French singing, respectively, and the interesting interplay between the chorus and the ensemble is also well performed by the talented team of Le Concert Spiritsuelle. The chorus and chorus ensemble are also very well coordinated by the talented team of Le Conseil Spirituelle. The performance is a masterpiece that Niquet himself is proud of the deepening of his interpretation after a quarter of a century since the old CD. Naxos Japan
