Semyon Balmoutin was born in St. Petersburg in 1877. For a long time his existence was forgotten, but the release of a coherent work on the GRAND PIANO label in 2019 brought him to high attention. Balmoutin studied with Balakirev and Rimsky-Korsakov and taught music theory at the Petrograd Conservatory (formerly known as the St. Petersburg Conservatory) from 1923 to 1925, but was caught up in the great purges of the Soviet Union in the 1930s and it is not known how he ended his life It is not known how he ended his life.
