Goldberg, Johann Gottlieb (1727-1756)

Description:

Johann Gottlieb Golteberg, famous for his "Variations," was one of Bach's pupils in the last years of the great composer's life, and is remembered for an episode related to the formation of "Arias and Variations," which Bach published at his own expense in 1741. After leaving his pupil, he asked his teacher to compose a piece to cure the insomnia of Count Kaiserling, whom he served after he left his pupil, and the result was the Variations, which were popularly known as the "Goltberg Variations" (......). The anecdote is known as the story told by his biographer, Volker, half a century after Bach's death. The anecdote itself is said to lack credibility, as Goltberg was only 14 years old when the Variations were composed, but the few surviving examples show that he was at least a first-rate composer from early on, and one wonders what kind of a great composer he would have become had he not died so early in life. It is such a pity. In this album, we can enjoy chamber music works with the softness and exquisite sound of the Rococo period, which is the fruit of such a precocious genius. The C major trio sonata, which has long been known as Bach's work, and the baroque violinist Sviridov, who has been attracting attention in the European old music scene in recent years, and other talented performers vividly revive the mastery of sound production in which the skillful handling of polyphony coexists effortlessly with natural and melodious music. The performance will be performed by a talented group of musicians including Sviridov, a baroque violinist who has recently attracted attention in the European ancient music scene. Naxos Japan
