Description:

The album, entitled "Gateway to the Beyond," features four works composed in Germany between 1920 and 1943, arranged around Bach's Sonata for Solo Violin, with the exception of Hindemith, three of which are world premiere recordings. The opening work, Ertmann's Sonata, was written in the early modernist style, opening with six enigmatic notes. It is followed by a mysterious prelude by Borck, who died during World War II. Placed next to Bach's sonata is Hindemith's Violin Sonata with the subtitle "It's a Very Nice Day Outside." The last movement has a variation on the melody of Mozart's song "Longing for Spring," but the beautiful theme is transformed into completely different music. The last work by Heinz Schubert (1908-1945) is given the title "Fantasy" even though it was composed during a period of uncertainty. It expresses despair in the midst of suffering. Lucas Brunnelt, a violinist born in Bonn in 1989, spins exciting music on a single violin in this album, produced over a period of eight months, connecting Bach with contemporary expressionism.
