Description:
From the Verona Festival, Italy, comes "Nabucco," the opera of 2017 that dominated the opera world! Nabucco" is based on the historical fact of the real-life Babylonian king Nabukodonozor (the historical Nebuchadnezzar II). It was Verdi's third production, performed at La Scala in Milan in 1842, and the composer's first success. Against the backdrop of a war between two opposing nations, this magnificent historical opera centers on the love-hate relationship between Fenena and Abigaille, two daughters of Nabucco, over their enemy, Ismaele of the Hebrew royal family. Stage director Arnaud Bernhardt has crafted a daring production that replaces the ancient biblical story with the period of the Italian unification movement and places a replica of La Scala, the epicenter of the popular uprising of 1848, at the center of Verona's grand stage. Under the sturdy leadership of conductor Daniel Oren, excellent singers acted and sang, especially soprano Susanna Branchini, who literally swept the stage with her singing of Abigaille, considered the most difficult role Verdi ever created.The opera will culminate with an encore of the opera's highlight, the longing chorus of the Hebrews taken captive in Babylon, "Fly, my thoughts, on golden wings!
