Description:

The 17th in the DENON ORT-mastered SACD series Yuji Takahashi's performance of the monumental "Prepared Piano" is now available on SACD for the first time! This is the first SACD release in high-resolution format using ORT mastering! New commentary by Miyuki Shiraishi, a leading expert on John Cage John Cage is one of the most famous contemporary musicians of the 20th century. Yuji Takahashi recorded his "Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano" in 1975, in the early days of digital recording. This time, we have coupled it with Toshiro Mayuzumi's "Pieces for Prepared Piano and Strings," recorded in 1969 during the analog recording era. The ORT mastering technology originally developed by Nippon Columbia was used to create a high-resolution version (except for 2), and this is the first SACD release. The CD layer also uses this mastered sound source. John Cage is one of the most influential contemporary composers of the 20th century, particularly in the field of experimental music, and has had a strong impact not only on audiences in Japan but also on his fellow composers. Cage has expanded the possibilities of music, and has also broadened the definition of music itself. In the field of "prepared piano," which has been reissued in high sound quality, the idea of inserting a foreign object between the strings of a piano was unique and only one of its kind at the time, and its use as a percussion instrument was influenced by the gamelan, to which he was devoted, but this technique certainly added new areas." The "prepared piano" technique was first adopted by Toshiro Mayuzumi in his "Special Recording," and has since been adopted by other Japanese composers, including Toru Takemitsu. The performance of the nearly 60-minute "Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano" itself is very advanced and technically difficult, but Japan has already been a place for cutting-edge music since the 1960s, especially among young performers and composers (Seiji Ozawa, Hiroshi Wakasugi, etc.), and one of the leading pianists of that time was Yuji Takahashi, who was a pianist at the time. One of the foremost pianists was Yuji Takahashi. (1/2)
