Description:
Debut album by Ossetian-born conductor Tugan Sohiyev, recorded in 1977. This is the first recording with the Deutsche Symphony Orchestra Berlin, of which Sohiyev is principal conductor, and the first in a series of Prokofiev recording projects to be completed in 2016. It features "Ivan the Terrible" composed for a film produced by Soviet film director Sergei Eisenstein. The performance is full of bloodthirsty intensity and brings out the charm of the work.
