The first Japan tour of The Weight Band, an entity that carries on the various legacies left behind by the legendary rock group The Band in this 21st century, was realized in August 2019. The performance was far more powerful and thrilling than expected, and this was roots rock at its finest. Although not included on the album as a stand-alone track, tour guests Paul Barea and Fred Tackett, also key members of the legendary Little Feat band, were also on hand, and their vocals can be heard on the album on two encore songs. In particular, the opening verse of "The Weight" was sung by Paul Barea, and it was his last live vocal solo of his life. This album was recorded live at Billboard Live Tokyo on August 31. Carrying on the tradition. Connecting legends.The Weight Band is such a reliable bunch! This year's touring members are Jim Wieder (GV), Brian Mitchell (KV), Michael Blum (DV), and Albert Rogers (BV), and since late 2018, the terrific Matt Zeiner, an even more powerful and soulful vocalist and keyboard player, has joined the band, surprising even fans of The Band from the beginning and making them fans again. The songs on the album are a mix of two slightly different setlists from August 31 to cover both The Band's hits and The Weight Band's originals. If you didn't shed a tear when the intro to "The Wait" began during the encore, you couldn't hold it in any longer and cried when the keyboard intro to "I Shall Be Released" began at the end! I hope you will experience such a powerful and emotional live performance again with this album.
