Description:
Georg Fritsch and the Badische Staatskapelle Vol. 2! The second collection of Reger's works! Georg Fritsch and the Staatskapelle Badische Staatskapelle present their second release of Romantic orchestral works! The German conductor Georg Fritsch and his Badische Staatskapelle (Badenische Staatskapelle), whose earlier release of R. Strauss' Alpine Symphonies (VKJK 2302) was a far superior performance than expected, present their second release of works by Max Reger, whose 150th birthday is in 2023, The second program of the Staatskapelle Badische Staatskapelle (Badenische Staatskapelle) will feature two masterpieces from his relatively late years: "Romantic Suite" and "Variations on a Theme of Mozart and Fugue". The "Romantic Suite" is a fine work that inherits the German dreamlike music of Mendelssohn's "A Summer Night's Dream" with a hint of Debussy's modern coloring. On the other hand, "Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Mozart," one of Reger's masterpieces, is a variation and fugue on the theme of the first movement of Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 11, famous for the Turkish March. The work basically makes full use of a two-wind orchestra and pioneered later neoclassicism in opposition to the bloated, super-sized orchestral works of around 1910.It is still fresh in our minds that Kirill Petrenko took up this work during the Berlin Philharmonic's Japan tour in November 2023. The performance by Fritsch and the Staatskapelle Badische was again very fine. In the "Romantic Suite," Reger creates an unintentionally sigh-inducingly beautiful world of romanticism, while in the "Variations on a Theme by Mozart and Fugue," the progressive spirit of Reger, who was quick to break away from late Romanticism to create music for a new era, clearly emerges amidst the rich music. The most important thing about both pieces is that they are both very well written, with a strong sense of flutability. Above all, it was a pleasure to hear how the Staatskapelle Badische, under Fritsch's baton, united to produce organic music. I look forward to hearing more of this duo in the future. Tobu Shoji Co.
