The German composer Aribert Reimann (1936-) will celebrate his 50th birthday in 2016. Reimann is one of the most remarkable composers in the world, with his works being performed in the repertoire of opera houses in Europe and the United States. In Japan, his operas "Medea" (2012) and "Lear" (2013), both premiered in Japan at the Nissay Theatre, have been much talked about. Originally written for mezzo-soprano, "Enveloped in Darkness" is a series of nine songs for solo unaccompanied voice, based on a poem by Paul Czeran, a 20th century German-Jewish poet.In this CD, countertenor Tim Sevreau sings with the clarity and rigidity unique to countertenors. This is because the "Nine Pieces" for orchestra corresponds to "Enveloped in Darkness," which is placed before it.
