The latest in BBE Music's J Jazz Masterclass Series! This popular work was released in 1982 on Enya Records, Germany's most important jazz label along with ECM, and was recorded live when Aki Takase made her European debut in November 1981, performing at the Berlin Jazz Festival. Included "Song For Hope", a J-Jazz piano masterpiece whose lyrical piano is comparable to Fumio Itabashi's "Watarase" and Ryo Fukui's "Early Summer"! With Song for Hope, BBE Music is reissuing Aki Takase's 1982 live album, Song for Hope, a collection of songs by the composer, performer, and recording artist who has been a poised and exquisite musician for over 40 years. This work allows us to continue exploring the golden age of modern jazz in Japan from the late 1960s through the mid-1980s.Song for Hope" was recorded live at the Berlin Jazz Festival, where Takase made his European debut in November 1981, and was originally released in 1982 on Enya Records, the most important European jazz label founded in Munich in 1971 by Matthias Winkelmann and Horst Weber. It was originally released in 1982 on the jazz label Enya Records, founded by Matthias Winkelmann and Horst Weber in Munich in 1971. At Enya Records, he became label mates with some of the world's leading jazz pianists, including Mal Waldron, Dollar Brand, and Randy Weston, and followed in the footsteps of such leading Japanese artists as Terumasa Hino and Yosuke Yamashita. The hypnotic title track from "J Jazz Vol. 3" features J-jazz stalwart Takeo Moriyama on drums and Nobuyoshi Ino on bass. Moriyama's history is detailed in J Jazz Vol. 1, and his own excellent album, East Plants, was reissued as part of the J Jazz Masterclass Series. Bassist Ino has been active in the Japanese jazz scene since the mid-1970s, performing and recording with many leading artists and groups, including Fumio Itabashi, Masahiko Togashi, Hiromasa Suzuki, Masaru Imada, and Masayuki Takayanagi. Aki Takase was born in Osaka in 1948 and began playing the piano at the age of three.Raised in Tokyo, she studied classical music at Toho Gakuen School of Music before developing an interest in contemporary music and jazz.
