This is a live film of an unprecedented concert in which Jonas Kaufmann performed operettas and Wienerlied, which the world's opera world is eager to see him perform, and which has been released theatrically in more than 20 countries since September 2020. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Vienna produced a succession of operettas, including Johann Strauss' "Die Fledermaus" and "A Night in Venice" and Lehar's "The Merry Widow," whose arias and duets quickly became popular hits. The arias and duets in these operettas quickly became well-loved hit numbers. Popular songs about Vienna (Wienerlied) composed by Robert Stoltz, Hans Mey, Hermann Leopold, and others took the world by storm. These were also the charming songs sung over the years by the great tenors of the 20th century, such as Richard Tauber, Rudolf Schock, and Fritz Wunderlich.Kaufman loves these operettas and songs so much that he began his professional career in 1993 singing the lead role in the comedy "A Night in Venice." The idea that he has been warming up to for many years since then was released as an album in 2019. This video is a live performance of a solo recital she gave at the Konzerthaus in Vienna, featuring songs from that album. The "Villiers Songs" and duet pieces feature a guest appearance by Rachel Willis-Sorensen, who played the role of Mulgrito in the Royal Opera's September 2019 production of Faust, and her beautiful lyricism and graceful phrasing add to the flourish. In between performances, Kaufman's comments are interspersed with off-the-cuff remarks, including a visit to the Prater Park, Grinzing's Heuriger, Vienna's Central Cemetery, and other Viennese landmarks associated with the work, where he interacts with the locals and reflects on his own past.(1/2) Sony Music
