A violinist fascinated by dance traces a passionate journey through seven centuries of dance music. Hope has long been fascinated by the power of dance to inspire and energize people. Dance is part of everyone's life and has always been deeply connected to music. This album takes the audience on a journey through seven centuries of musical history, celebrating its rhythms that have moved bodies and uplifted hearts since long ago. It is a magical, passionate, rhythm-filled journey through Western classical music from the Middle Ages to the late 20th century, from 14th century laments to Wojciech Kilar's 1986 work "Orava," Handel, Saint-Saëns, Florence Price, Duke Ellington, and more, Hope Hope has already been performing dances for more than 20 years. Hope already had the idea for a dance-based album more than 20 years ago.This time around, they revisited it and expanded the repertoire considerably while retaining the original idea of the universal significance and diversity of dance and rhythm. The performance was with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, of which Hope has been music director since 2016. While some tracks are performed by a full orchestra, others are performed by smaller ensembles organized to suit the work and genre. They can be heard in new arrangements by Hope collaborator Paul Bateman. Also featured are some fine guest artists, including Yenou Listeche on zimbalon, Omar Massa on bandoneon, Jacques Amon on piano, Marie-Pierre Langrame on harp, and Yosho Stephan on guitar.
