Experience the works of Bohémian composer Zelenka, a leading figure of the Baroque era, through the richly expressive voice of bass singer Tomáš Šerč Šerč is a bass singer noted for his wide-ranging performances of cantatas, oratorios, Romantic lieder, and operas spanning the 18th to 20th centuries. He has performed and recorded with ensembles including Collegium 1704, Collegium Vocale Gent, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. His greatest strength lies in Baroque repertoire. He states that J.S. Bach and Zelenka are the composers he holds most dear. This album features three liturgical works for bass by Zelenka, composed during his seven years serving the Dresden court ensemble. Sherk's deeply expressive singing conveys the urgency of the music: the sombre atmosphere of the Lamentations of Jeremiah, the majestic praise to the Lord in Psalm 110 "I Will Give Thanks to the Lord," and the imploring cry in the Marian hymn "Salve Regina." Sandwiched between the Zelenka works, Tartini's flute concerto offers listeners a gentle moment of solace. Enjoy the tender, richly colored tones of the flute played by Jana Semerádová. SUPRAPHON
