A true 24 jewel box. Ansnes' tribute to the great Nordic composers. Following the worldwide success of "Journey to Beethoven" (a performance and recording of the complete piano concertos), which took three years to complete between 2012 and 2014, and involved a recording and world tour, this is Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Ansnes' long-awaited first solo album for Sony Classical. Following the success of "Journey to Beethoven" (a performance and recording of the complete piano concertos) in 2014, his first solo album for Sony Classical is the long-awaited all-Sibelius album. Sibelius is well known as the composer of seven symphonies and orchestral works such as "Finlandia," but his 150 solo piano works (many of them small pieces) are not well known. From among them, Ansnes has selected 15 works and 24 tracks that resonate strongly with him, and has arranged them with exquisite ease to create a single Sibelius album.In the early 1990s, he became familiar with the complete symphonies (except for the 4th) and major orchestral works through the performances of the great conductor Pervo Berglund, with whom he frequently collaborated, and was captivated by the depth of the music. Since then, Ansnes has felt a deep bond with the music of Sibelius, and this album is the result of many years of accumulated feelings. ■In addition to "Curikki" and "Sonatina No. 1," which became famous after Gould recorded them in 1976/77, and the piano version of the famous orchestral piece "Sad Waltz," the album includes the gems that Ansnes has been incorporating into her recitals since last year. ■"I'm crazy about Sibelius's beautiful, loveable piano music.How is it possible that a piano piece by such a famous composer is so little known! What a wonderful feeling to hear these undiscovered masterpieces for the first time! Not all of the pieces are first-rate, but when carefully selected, they come together beautifully.
