Weimar and Berlin were the center of Gropius' creative activities. The troupe is also active there and actively features works closely associated with the region. The members studied together at the Menuhin International Music Academy and the Juilliard School, and have been invited to perform at important concerts, including the opening of the Weimar State Theater in 2018. The album includes works by Georg Alexander Albrecht (1935-2021) and Casals, in addition to Mendelssohn and Dvořák. Albrecht was a German composer and conductor who served as music director of the Deutsches Staatsoper and Weimar Staatskapelle from 1996 to 2002. The string quartet "Fear and Sorrow Released by Love" was commissioned by the orchestra and is a masterpiece from Albrecht's last years. The string quartet version of Pablo Casals' famous "Birdsong" is also noteworthy. (King International)
