A major project for the bicentennial of Schubert's death in 2028 has begun. The first collection of Schubert string quartets by the up-and-coming Allinde String Quartet! The Allinde String Quartet, a quartet formed in 2018 and named after Schubert's songs, has begun a major project of recording for the 200th anniversary of Schubert's death in 2028. The first volume of this commemorative project includes Schubert's String Quartet No. 1, D.18, composed when he was 13 years old; No. 10, D.87, written two years later; and the unfinished No. 12, "Quartet Segment," D.703. The up-and-coming Quartet, which has won awards at international chamber music competitions, has begun a remarkable new series of performances that will be dedicated to Schubert! In this series, the Quartet will record Schubert's works as well as commissioned works. This album features "Unbegun" by Thomas Kotcheff, a promising composer born in the United States in 1988, in homage to Schubert. The piece is based on the first six bars of Schubert's song "Allinde," and the harmony of this string quartet is reminiscent of Schubert's harmonies.This is truly a fitting start to the Schubert project dedicated to our group.
