Daniel Barenboim, one of the world's greatest conductors in recent years, is also a gifted pianist who has achieved great things. This box set contains 13 DVDs of Barenboim's brilliant performances as a pianist and conductor. While the first box set (20-63698) focused on Barenboim as a pianist, this second set features Barenboim as a conductor and conductor of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, which he founded, as well as the Gillvester Concerts with the Berlin Philharmonic, the European Concerts, and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. You can also see Barenboim's wide range of activities as a musician, including concertos as a pianist under the direction of Celibidacke, and duos with his close friend Argerich. ＜Daniel Barenboim was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1942 to Russian Jewish parents. In August 1950, at the age of seven, he made his debut as a pianist. 1952, his family moved to Israel, and in the summer of 1954, he visited Salzburg to attend Igor Markevich's conducting master classes.In the same year, he met Furtwängler, who acclaimed the resulting "appearance of the 11-year-old Barenboim as an incident. "From 1955, he studied harmony and composition in Paris with Nadia Boulanger. As a pianist, he made his debut in Vienna and Rome in 1952, Paris in 1955, London in 1956, and New York in 1957, establishing his reputation in his teens. Soon after, he began conducting in earnest, and during his close association with the English Chamber Orchestra, which lasted more than a decade from 1965, he was inundated with invitations to guest conduct major orchestras in Europe and the U.S. From 1975 to 1989, he was music director of the Orchestre de Paris, and in 1981 made his Bayreuth In 1981, he made his debut at the Bayreuth Festival. From 1991 to 2006 he was Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and in 1992 he became General Music Director of the Berlin State Opera House. In 2000, he was appointed Chief Conductor for Life of the Staatskapelle Berlin, the resident orchestra of the Staatskapelle Berlin.From 2011 to 2014, he served as Music Director of La Scala in Milan. He has also developed a special relationship over the years with the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic. In recent years, he has also returned to his work as a pianist, and more recently with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, a project for Arab-Jewish peace that he founded with Edward Said.
