A musical tale of darkness and light by Inon Barnatan Inon Barnatan, who is still fresh in our minds from his recent visit to Japan for the Tokyo Spring Music Festival 2025, has released "Darknesse Visible," a collection of works by Ravel, Debussy, Thomas Adès, Ronald Stevenson, and other French and British composers. The album takes its title from Adès's work of the same name and conveys what Barnatan hopes to express in this album. All of the pieces are inspired by stories and poems, and all of them involve darkness and light. Ravel's "Gaspard et la Valse" and "La Valse" showcase the colors of the music, while Debussy's "Suite Bergamasque," which includes "Moonlight," expresses the beauty of darkness. Ades and Stevenson also reflect darkness and light in works inspired by the works of Dowland and Britten, respectively. Born in Tel Aviv in 1979, Barnatan began playing piano at age 3 and made his orchestral debut at age 11. He has studied with Victor Delevianko, Maria Curcio, Christopher Elton, and Leon Fleischer.His subsequent success was remarkable, and he was appointed the New York Philharmonic's first Artist in Association. During his three-season tenure, Barnatan expanded his activities in the United States and elsewhere, performing concertos and chamber music with the orchestra.
