Masterpiece No. 71 with Kozener as soloist! Cantata No. 71 is the only one of Bach's extant cantatas that was published during his lifetime. It is a work of outstanding accomplishment in every way, including the size of its orchestration and the grandeur of its musical ideas. The second aria in particular is unique in that it is sung by a tenor and a soprano, and the ornate chorale melody sung by the soprano is truly beautiful and impressive. Kozenauer's voice descends from heaven. 177 also has an aria in which the soprano plays an active role, and it is enjoyable. ［Comments courtesy of King International.]
