With his intelligent approach, versatile voice, and sensitive delivery, 21st century Lieder singer Ian Bostridge, whose previous recording on the PENTATONE label, Schubert's "The Watermill Girl" (PTC-5186775), has been highly acclaimed, is now the focus of attention with a new recording of Respighi's Lieder, recorded at the Corona Disaster in July 2020. This is a collection of Respighi's songs recorded at the session! Although Respighi's "Roman Trilogy" is so famous that his songs have been overshadowed by it, he left behind beautiful songs with colorful melodies. The poems by Ada Negri (1870-1945), the symbolist Gabriele d'Annunzio (1863-1938), and Scottish folk songs demonstrate Respighi's versatile style and wide literary inspiration. Respighi's songs are not well known, and this album is a representative recording of his songs, carefully sung by Bostridge, a leading contemporary singer who cherishes the meaning of the poems.
