The Berlin Academy of Ancient Music is a virtuoso group that has been actively releasing music from Harmonie Mundi and Pentatone. This album is Haydn's opera "Desert Island"! Set on a deserted island in the Atlantic Ocean, "Desert Island" is an atzione teatrale (small-scale musical drama) with a happy ending about love, loss, and misunderstanding. This work is characterized by Haydn's use of orchestral accompaniment throughout the work, including recitative, and colorful and dramatic melodies throughout. The highly elaborate instrumental parts have been intentionally cut because they demand too much from the players, but in this recording, all the parts are restored and performed using the latest edition revised by Thomas Busse! The recording also features a splendid lineup of soloists.
