Gergiev & the London Symphony Orchestra's Brahms' German Requiem SACD Hybrid Edition, which made headlines during the 2012/13 season with Gergiev's ambitious series of contrasting performances of works by Brahms and Szymanowski under the baton of the London Symphony Orchestra, now appears on LSO Live! Brahms' "Deutsches Requiem" (LSO0739), which will be performed on March 30 and 31, 2013, following the second half of the program of Szymanowski's "Stabat Mater" (LSO0739). Gergiev is already known for his "Deutsches Requiem" live video recording with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and the performance on May 25, 2008 was the last concert of his 13-year tenure as principal conductor from 1995 to this year. The London Symphony Chorus, formed in 1966 to complement the work of the London Symphony Orchestra, has given many powerful performances on previous recordings with the Symphony. The London Symphony Chorus is led by Simon Halsey, known as one of the finest chorus builders of his day. The exquisite and exquisite harmonies are truly the work of one of the finest chorus builders of our time. The two soloists, both from the U.K., are well cast, and Matthews, a familiar face at LSO Live, is irresistibly charming with his dignified singing voice.
