Following "Harmonielere" (SFS 0053), John Adams (1947-) of the San Francisco Symphony (SFS) presents two new recordings of works with the common theme of "Beethoven" and "SFS", commissioned works for the 100th anniversary of the SFS, which are currently the talk of the world. The new recording includes the world premiere recording of "Absolut Jest", a concerto for string quartet and orchestra, commissioned by the SFS to commemorate its 100th anniversary, and "Grand Pianola Music", also commissioned by the SFS, composed and premiered in 1982, almost 30 years ago. Absolut Gesto" features a series of motifs from Beethoven's symphonies and string quartets in its approximately 25-minute performance time.After the world premiere by the St. Lawrence String Quartet and the SFS in 2012, the world premiere recording of this much-talked-about work is sure to attract a great deal of attention, with the Doric String Quartet giving its UK premiere, the Atacca String Quartet giving its Spanish premiere, and many more country premieres!
