Description:

Hear it on a legendary organ that has been restored after 77 years of silence! Andrey Shadeiko, organist and conductor, uses the organ of the Kfranciscan Holy Trinity Church in Gdanis, rebuilt in 2018, to recreate the magnificent sounds of the organ architecture of the Baltic countries from the early 17th to the mid-18th centuries in his "Music of the Baltic Sea States series," which has received high acclaim. This is the second installment in the "Organ Landscape of Gdańsk" series, also using a reconstructed historic organ from Gdańsk, Poland. the Johann Friedrich Rohde organ in St. John's Church in Gdańsk, built in 1761, is perfectly suited to express the elegance and lightness of late 18th century music. It was the most modern organ of its time and served as a model for organs throughout Europe. However, it was all but destroyed during World War II, leaving the facade intact, where it remained for 77 years. It was rebuilt in 2020 by two outstanding craftsmen, Gid Schumacher and Simon Januszkiewicz, and organist Andrei Shadeiko, and recorded for the first time on this disc. The contents are a collection of organ concertos by English composer Thomas Arne (1710-1778). Arne was as popular as Handel in mid-18th century England, and is best known as the composer of "Rule Britannia," a British patriotic song that is still performed annually at the BBC Proms. Although almost forgotten today, he was a prolific composer who wrote works in a variety of genres, including operas, oratorios, concertos, sinfonias, and sonatas. The Organ Concerto, a work that requires a festive atmosphere, a wide variety of colors, and a high level of skill played on the majestic organo pleno, is a magnificent group of works that is as good as any of Handel's works of the same period.
