Description:
Johanna Marzi (1924-1979), the great Hungarian female violinist, who is famous as the 18th daughter of Hubaye's last treasured daughter, a superb performance that should be called the golden medium, began violin lessons at the age of six, and at just ten years old, she entered the prestigious Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where the famous teacher She was a child prodigy who was accepted into the class of the famous teacher Jené Hubay (who studied with her even before entering the school). She then continued her studies as the last remaining treasured child of the Hubay School, making her debut at the age of 13, but the outbreak of World War II put a temporary halt to her activities. After the war, in 1947, at the age of 23, she won a prize at the Geneva International Music Competition and settled in Switzerland, making her debut in England in 1953 and in the United States in 1957.From the 1960s, she was also famous for her active duo activities with István Haidu, and her feminine, friendly, and clean playing was loved by many, and she still reigns as one of the best female violinists, along with Ginette Neveu and Gioconda de Vitós! The recording on this disc is a very special one. This disc includes all six sonatas and partitas for solo violin by J.S. Bach, one of Marzi's best-known works. The performances are a golden middle ground of her musicality as a classicist who valued moderation and style, and are in the authentic tradition of the Hungarian romantic music tradition of Joseph Szigeti and Emil Termany. The luscious vibrato, which Edward Greenfield of England's "Manchester Guardian" praised more highly than the master Heifetz's recording and Schoenberg praised as "extremely pure and classical," is beautifully restored in this reissue.
