Description:
A collection of super-duper concertos! A must listen! Two piano sonatas! Like "wild fire". The miracle of Arrau and Klemperer's "Emperor" at the frenzied Beethoven Festival in 1957 was an overwhelming success. How overwhelmingly successful the 1957 Beethoven Festival was can be seen from Testament's previous releases (Ninth, SBT-1177), as well as from numerous newspaper reviews and episodes. After the performance of "Heroes," Karajan came to the dressing room and said, "I want to live to wave a funeral march as wonderful as yours," and after the "Ninth," George Szell said, "Unfortunately... too wonderful! and that hundreds of fans waited outside the hall for more than an hour and a half, despite the November cold, just to say a few words of thanks to Klemperer.... For a month from October 11 to November 15 of that year, London (and possibly the whole world!) was in the midst of a spectacular Beethoven performance by Klemperer. One can imagine how London (and maybe the world!) went crazy for Klemperer's Beethoven. The relationship between Klemperer and Arau goes back to the pre-war years. The relationship between Klemperer and Arrau was not what one would call "cordial," and they were quite critical of each other's interpretations of their performances. This spirit was still alive and well in the 1957 collaboration, as described in J. Horowitz's "Conversation with Arrau". It was the 25th bar of the second movement of "Emperor. What are you doing there?" Klemperer asked, and Arau, who was playing the trills the way he thought they should be played. It's amazing that a great artist like him thinks that every trill should be fast!" . However, in the second volume of Hayworth's 'his life and times,' Arrau recalls his playing at this time: "That was truly exceptional. However, in the second volume of Hayworth's 'his life and times,' Arrau recalls this performance: "That truly exceptional opening chord! It was the best accompaniment I have ever experienced in my life. It is easy to imagine that there was a solid relationship of trust between the two musicians, even as their personalities clashed with each other. This recording is the best proof of that. We hope you will fully enjoy the frenzy of the festival and the profound game between the two musicians.
