Second collection of J.S. Bach's harpsichord concertos played by BCJ Principal Conductor Yuto Suzuki! SACD Hybrid Edition. Yuto Suzuki, who assumed the position of Principal Conductor of the Bach Collegium Japan in September 2018, has begun recording Bach's complete concerto cycle for harpsichord and strings! Most of Bach's concertos for solo harpsichord and string orchestra are arrangements of concertos for other instruments by Bach and other composers, but they are a remarkable group of works that elevate the harpsichord from a passive bass to a solo instrument. The first album (KKC-6266 / BIS SA-2401), which contains the harpsichord concertos Nos. 1, 2, 5, and 8, was highly acclaimed by various magazines and newspapers, including Record Geijutsu's "Special Recognition Disc", Mainichi Newspapers' "Special Recommendation Disc", and Yomiuri Newspapers' "Recommended Disc". This second album includes the Harpsichord Concerto No. 6 BWV 1057, in which the violin of the Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 in G major, BWV 1049 was replaced by the harpsichord, the Harpsichord Concerto No. 4 BWV 1055, in which the original concerto is thought to have featured an oboe d'amore as soloist, the Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor, BWV 1041 was the original harpsichord concerto No. 7 in G minor, BWV 1058, and the Violin Concerto No. 2 in E major, BWV 1042 was the original harpsichord concerto No. 3 in D major, BWV 1054.The well-known violin concertos and other pieces are given a different charm by the harpsichord arrangements, and the musical dialogue between Yuto Suzuki's eloquent harpsichord and the BCJ string members is truly a masterful performance!
