Saint-Saëns 100th anniversary! The Liège Philharmonic Orchestra led by Kantorov recorded three symphonies composed by Saint-Saëns in his teens and twenties! Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) celebrates his 100th anniversary this year (2021). The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, led by Jean-Jacques Kantoroff, has recorded three symphonies, not "with organ," but the Symphony in A major, Symphony No. 1, and Symphony No. 2, written between his teens and mid-20s, before he numbered his works! The talented Saint-Saëns entered the Paris Conservatory at only 13 years of age. Inspired by the symphonies of the great German and Austrian composers, he began to explore this genre at an early age. The A major symphony recorded here was written at the age of 16, and is in four movements, the most impressive of which is the beautiful melody from the beginning of the first movement, which soon expands to a grand scale. It is a symphony that shines with vigor and vitality.The First Symphony, written only three years later, was praised by Berlioz and Gounod, and is a powerful work that seems to prove that Saint-Saëns was firmly established as a composer. The Second Symphony, written at the age of 25, introduces a cyclic form and, although simple, allows us to enjoy Saint-Saëns' originality.
