Martinu (1890-1959)

Description:

F.P. Zimmermann records two violin concertos by Martinů! The SACD hybrid disc features the virtuoso violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann, born in Duisburg, Germany in 1965, who has been actively recording for the BIS label. In this album, Zimmermann performs two violin concertos by Martineau and Bartók's Sonata for Solo Violin with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra led by Jakub Frusha. Czech composer Bohuslav Martineau (1890-1959) is known for his prolific output. Martineau was also a violinist, known as the second violinist of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra for a time. The manuscript of the Violin Concerto No. 1, which Martineau wrote for the virtuoso violinist Samuel Dushkin while in Paris, was completed in 1933, but the manuscript was lost. It was later discovered in its complete form in the United States and given its world premiere in 1973, with Josef Suk as soloist, conducted by Scholte and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. On the other hand, Violin Concerto No. 2, completed in 1943, was commissioned by Mischa Elman. Both concertos are truly energetic and powerful works. The solo violin performance is impressive, with a magnificent orchestra and a great deal of skill. As is typical of Martineau's style, the Czech folk melodies are strongly present, and it is noteworthy that Jakub Frusha, a composer from his own country, captured the language and played it beautifully. Zimmermann plays with great eloquence and eloquence, and this is a new masterpiece of the same work. The coupling is Bartók's masterpiece from the last years of his life, the Sonata for Solo Violin. This work was commissioned by Yehudi Menuhin in 1944 and dedicated to him. It is a four-movement work that strongly pays homage to Bach, but it is also an ambitious work in which Bartók's style of expression and new sounds are pursued. In the second movement, the strings are strongly pulled perpendicular to the fingerboard, a technique known as "Bartók pizzicato," and the third movement makes extensive use of the flageolet technique, making this a difficult piece that brings out the full potential of the violin's technique.Be sure to watch out for Bartók's unaccompanied Bartók, which is mesmerizing with Zimmermann's overwhelming technique! In addition to the performance, the instruments are also noteworthy. The violin is Zimmermann's favorite Stradivarius "Lady Inchiquin" made in 1711. This instrument was once owned by Kreisler and has a velvety tone. Please enjoy the performance on Zimmermann's beloved instrument, which has been with him for many years. King International
