The Chiaroscuro Quartet, led by Ibragimova, performs Schubert's "Death and the Maiden"! The Chiaroscuro Quartet, led by violinist Alina Ibragimova, has released Haydn's string quartets Nos. 31-33 (BIS SA 2158 / KKC 5677) and 34-36 (BIS SA 2168 / KKC 5832) on the BIS label to great acclaim. The new release of Schubert's string quartets No. 14 "Death and the Maiden" and No. 9 is highly anticipated. Composed in 1815, No. 9 in G minor, the quartet is a highly anticipated recording, specializing in classical and early romantic repertoire. The same year was a fruitful one for the orchestra, which produced numerous works including songs, church music, and piano sonatas. Although the influence of Haydn and Mozart can be seen in this work, Schubert's personality is also becoming clear, and this is the first full-fledged work in a minor key.And then there is No. 14 in D minor, "Death and the Maiden," one of Schubert's masterpieces. The second movement borrows the piano accompaniment from the song "Death and the Maiden" Op.7-3 D.531, hence the common name. The Chiaroscuro Quartet was formed in 2005 by friends who were studying at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in England, and the ensemble has matured in recent years. The group's name "Chiaroscuro" is an art term meaning a method of light and dark or shading that creates an impression of contrast, and as the name implies, the quartet's interpretation of Schubert's works is superb, allowing the listener to rediscover the full range of Schubert's charms.
