Description:
The leading contemporary jazz labels, Mack Avenue, Blue Note, Concord, Verve, Nonesuch, and Telarc have all contributed previously unreleased material to benefit musicians in distress from the Corona disaster, and the compilation album, "Relief A Benefit forthe Jazz Foundation of America's Musicians' Emergency Fund" is now available on CD and LP! Relief A Benefit forthe Jazz Foundation of America's Musicians' Emergency Fund, a dream compilation of previously unreleased recordings by artists representing six major labels. All proceeds from the album will be donated to the Jazz Foundation of America's Musicians' Emergency Fund, which supports jazz musicians who have fallen on hard times due to the Corona disaster. The money will go directly to jazz professionals who are in need of food, rent, and utilities. The opening track, an unreleased recording from the twin-headed project of Esperanza Spalding (b,vo) and her ally Leo Genovese (p.kb), is a tribute to their mentor, Wayne Shorter (ts,ss). From Mack Avenue, Christian McBride (b), Cecil McLaughlin Salvant (vo), and Kenny Garrett (as) contribute tracks not previously recorded for the album. Hiromi Uehara (p) recorded a new solo piano version of "Green Tea Farm" in 2020, which depicts a scene from a tea farm in her hometown of Shizuoka.Herbie Hancock (p), Wallace Rooney (tp), who died of a corona infection last year, and Jimmy Heath (ts), who passed away at the age of 93, will be featured in a hot session of Heath's original "Gingerbread Boy" from the 2014 Jazz Foundation of America's annual benefit concert, "A Great Night in Harlem". The show will end with a hot session of Heath's original, "Gingerbread Boy," featuring Jimmy Heath (ts), who passed away at the age of 93 from a coronary infection last year.
