The French label Indesens Calliope Records has been relaunched with the renewal of Indesens and Calliope. Annabelle Bertome-Reynolds, a violinist who studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, presents a collection of violin sonatas by Valentin Bibik, a 20th century Ukrainian composer. A graduate of Ukraine's National Kotlyarevsky Memorial Halkiu University of Arts, where he also taught, Bibik was a member of the Union of Soviet Union Composers from 1968 and chairman of the Halkiu organization of the Union of Ukrainian Composers from 1989. His diverse output includes a symphony dedicated to the victims of Ukraine's historic "Holodomor" famine, as well as operas and chamber music, which have not yet been performed to the fullest extent.Bertome-Reynolds is dedicated to uncovering such forgotten or undiscovered gems of repertoire, and we were delighted to have the opportunity to hear another rare work by Bibik, which seems to reflect the beautiful Ukrainian landscape.
