What is beautiful music? A special album of severed cultures coming to life "The seed that was sown is not watched over..." Ending with Schubert's "Evening Star," this song album features a lineup of songs by Brahms, who lived in the 19th century, and Grunzberg, who lived in the 20th century, and could not be more contrasting. Grunzberg was a composer who moved from Germany to France following the rise of the Nazis and wrote many of Edith Piaf's songs. Brahms' "German Folk Songs," which embodies the innocence and joy of music, is coupled with "Reminiscences - Holocaust Songs" by Grunzberg, a composer who knew the Holocaust. The latter, while sounding very beautiful, is simply poignant, and the cultural rupture of a century apart comes through strongly. This is a piece that makes one think about what a musical masterpiece is. King International
