Wolfgang Moospiel, the Austrian guitarist behind the modern ECM, has released his fourth original album for ECM, a masterpiece that ranks alongside his last album, 2016's Rising Grace, which received 5 stars from Downbeat magazine in the U.S. This album is the fourth original album from ECM and is a continuation of his previous album, Rising Grace. The album features Brad Meldor (p), Ambrose Arkinmusire (tp), Larry Grenadier (b), and Eric Harland (ds), and all but the seventh track, "Blueshead," composed by Meldor, is an original composition by Moosepiel himself. The album features a wide variety of compositions, including #1, "Where the River Goes," which flows from an ECM-esque aesthetic to sophisticated solos by each member; #4, "Clearing," with Harland's superb drumming and the ethereal Arkinmusire trumpet; and #7, "Blueshead," a lighthearted composition by Merdeau. The recording is rich in variety.
