Nominated for Best Instrumental Composition at the 64th Grammy Awards, this is the second album by harpist Brandy Younger, who made her major label debut in 2021 with the album "Somewhere Different" on Impulse. The first single released, "YOU'RE A GIRL FOR ONE MAN ONLY," is a previously unreleased song written by Dorothy Ashby, whom she admires and respects. This song was first unearthed through Younger's lifelong commitment to Ashby's history, and what could have been a jazz standard of the 1960s has been reborn as a timeless work, imbued with modern colors by Macaya's trademark cultural synthesizers. The album is a timeless work of art. Not only the single, but the entire album is inspired by Dorothy Ashby. Produced by Makaya McRaven, a drummer and producer who is active in the hip-hop community as well as jazz.The group includes Pete Rock, a hip-hop MC, DJ, and producer; Michelle Ndegeocello, a 10-time Grammy nominee and versatile rapper, bassist, and vocalist; 9th Wonder, a DJ; and many others. About the album, Younger said, "I'm very happy with the quality of the music. About the album, Younger said, "It has been a dream of mine for many years to make this album. I learned so much before it came to fruition. The finished album is a true symbol of who I am today. I am honored to be able to share it through songs written by my hero, Dorothy Ashby." He said. The intersection of race, gender, and region in Younger's identity allows her the unique experience of being exposed to this instrument within the rich creative expression, culture, and community of black people. This meaningful, contextual distinction is beautifully expressed in Younger's music on all of her albums and performances.
