ECM's LUMINESSENCE series, launched this year, now includes a 3-CD set of records that convey the sound of history! This "Solo Concerts" collection features Keith Jarrett's mesmerizing solo piano concerts in March and July 1973. These were concerts at the beginning of Jarrett's solo piano career, and can still be listened to closely today. In a common booklet, Keith Jarrett and Manfred Eicher write, "This album is true to itself and its audience from every angle, and we feel that it benefits us equally or more in the knowledge that our care has allowed us to give you the closest thing to being there. We feel that we have done so," he wrote. At the time of its release, it was acclaimed by the press in many countries and was awarded the GroBer Deutsche Schallplattenpreis in Germany. That enthusiasm has not abated. In a recent survey of all Jarrett's works by the UK's MOJO magazine, it was voted #1, and was described as "the high point of Jarrett's solo live concert, in all its improvisational glory. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the recording!
