Chopin on NIFC's new instrument Buchholz replica! Krzysztof Czonczek, born in 1992, is a young rising star from Poland who made it to the semi-finals of the 17th International Chopin Piano Competition in 2015. He has also won first prizes in numerous other competitions, including the Chopin International Piano Competition in Ukraine, the Città di Avezzano International Piano Competition in Italy, and the Polish National Chopin Piano Competition, etc. In 2016, he also visited Japan and participated in the Chopin Festival in Omotesando. This time, Kushonjek will play a replica of a period piano made by Polish manufacturer Frederik Buchholz, which is said to have been Chopin's favorite piano during his Warsaw period. The Buchholz piano, which was made around 1825-1826 and is in the collection of the Kremenets Historical Museum in Ukraine, was restored by Paul McNulty, a contemporary master craftsman known for his numerous historical piano reproductions.This instrument has also been selected as the instrument of choice for the Chopin International Competition for Period Instruments, the first competition of which will be held in 2018. Also included are Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 in a "solo piano version" and Krupinski's work on the theme of "Poland is Not Yet Destroyed," known today as the "Polish National Anthem," among other fascinating pieces!
