Volume 1 of a collection of Jewish music by composer Leo Zaitlin (1884–1930), who was born in the Jewish quarter of Pinsk (now in Belarus). He was active in the “Society for Jewish Folk Music” in St. Petersburg and emigrated to New York in 1923. In 1926, he began writing music for radio programs, which gained widespread popularity. This album features a variety of “Jewish music” he left behind. From simple songs to music set to recitations of poignant poetry, it unfolds a world filled with pain.
