The Black Dyke Band's fifth release in the "Black Dyke Gold" series, which follows its popular "Essential Dyke" series, includes Peter Graham's "Symphony of Crimson and Gold," a work commissioned for the 160th anniversary. The Gold Series is truly a series of recordings of the Black Dyke Band's popular repertoire, selected from the repertoire that the band performs in its regular concerts. The highlight is Peter Graham's "Symphony of Crimson and Gold. This work was commissioned for the Black Dyke Band's 160th anniversary concert. Each movement contains a theme or variation from a work closely associated with the Black Dyke Band and its composer, Peter Graham, creating a symphony that traces the history of Peter Graham and the Black Dyke Band.Trumpets Wild" and "Yellow Submarine" were recorded live at the 160th Anniversary Concert on July 12, 2015. These two songs were performed by a large ensemble that included Black Dyke alumni, and the band was named the "Black Dyke Reunion Band. In addition, "Trumpets Wild" features three principal cornet players of the past, which is a valuable sound source unique to the commemorative concert. Other highlights include Philip Spark's "Cantilena" and Paul Lovatt-Cooper's "Fire in the Blood. This CD is recommended for Black Dyke Band fans and brass band lovers.
