Description:

This album is deep! Studio One Music Lab is a unique melting pot of reggae, funk and dub created under the guidance of producer Clement "Coxsone" Dodd at 13 Brentford Road in Kingston, Jamaica, where some of the most forward thinking music came out of Jamaica through intense experimentation and collaboration between outstanding musicians, singers, DJs and engineers. It is a deep dive into the unique melting pot sound of reggae, funk and dub created at Studio One Music Lab, located at 13 Brentford Road. The Studio One Music Lab includes rare classic versions of Hortense Ellis' vocal cuts from Studio One. It also contains a wealth of cuts by some of the greatest musicians to ever come out of Jamaica, as well as Studio One, including Jackie Mittoo, Roland Alphonso, Cedric Brooks, Ernest Ranglin, and the Brentford All Stars.Plus, Lenny Hibbert's "Go For Yourself" (like The Meaters meets James Brown!). ), a cover of War's classic "The World is a Ghetto" by the Brentford All-Stars, and a more powerful reggae-funk version of Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love," which Jackie Mittoo also covered. The hypnotic rhythm of the song is a perfect example of this. Here you will find the deepest, most raw cuts emanating from the Studio One lab, with its hypnotic rhythms, powerful funk guitar and bass, soaring horns, and occasional vocals and toasting from musicians who have reached the highest peaks and deepest roots of reggae music. You will find. The ultra-deep roots/dub cuts show how unique Studio One was in Clement "Coxsone" Dodd's pioneering vision of reggae, music created as a function of an ongoing level of experimentation that blurred genre lines and constantly pushed the boundaries of reggae music. The presence of theStudio One Music Lab" comes with detailed sleeve notes by Steve Barker (Wire magazine), and is available on double gatefold vinyl + download code for analog, and in a slipcase for CD.
