Description:
Commemorating the 150th anniversary of Schoenberg's birth. Music of the New Viennese School with an excellent sense of balance brought about by a delicate touch and exquisite pedalingWarner Music Japan handles imports only, with Japanese manual and obi, Japanese commentary includes Japanese translation of the commentary in the original booklet and a new commentary written by Hiro Ichiba. This album by Elisabet Leonskaya pays homage to the New Viennese School of Music with works by Berg, Schoenberg, and Webern. Leonskaya is one of the most acclaimed pianists of our time, and by remaining true to herself and her music, she follows in the footsteps of the great Russian musicians of the Soviet era, such as Svyatoslav Richter and Emil Girelis, standard-bearers of the great musical tradition (both Russian and Viennese) In 2022, the Observer wrote: "The word 'legendary' should be reserved for the strictest of terms. The word is apt for the Soviet-born Austrian pianist...in her 70s, she has the energy and agility of a performer half her age, and her playing is filled with the wisdom of many years...Leonskaya has presence, Her power and vitality have the power to shock," he writes. She is also the recipient of Germany's prestigious Opus Classics Prize in 2020, and is hailed as an interpreter who respects the truth of music. Although Leonskaya specializes in classical and romantic works by Schubert, Beethoven, Chopin, and others, the only modern works she has recorded so far are Mussorgsky, Scriabin, and Shostakovich, which are all nationalities, and the The works of the New Viennese School are a surprise to listeners. These works, which use chromatic, atonal, and twelve-tone techniques, focus on the functional sound patterns rather than appreciating the melodic beauty of the music. They may be at odds with the "singing" music that is her forte. However, just by listening to the first note of the Webern at the beginning of the piece, you will be convinced that this piece is strongly rooted in the Viennese tradition. When I perform, I am not presenting myself on stage. It's the music that matters." Her playing, which she describes as "a delicate touch and exquisite pedaling," has a moderation, yet the romantic fragrance that wafts around the edges adds color to the sonata, which could be described as inorganic. Please enjoy this beautiful New Viennese Music School work, which only Leonskaya, with her excellent sense of balance, can perform. It will be released on September 13, 2024, to coincide with the 150th anniversary of Schoenberg's birth.
