Pat Metheny formed the Pat Metheny Group with Lyle Mays (kbds), Danny Gottlieb (ds), and Mark Egan (b), whom he met at the University of Miami. The following year, in 1978, the group released its first album, "Pat Metheny Group. In February 1980, the group released "American Garage" (recorded in 1979), and toured Europe. This album, recorded at a concert in Hamburg, Germany in July 1980, features songs from two albums released by the Pat Metheny Group, as well as Keith Jarrett's 'The Windup' and a selection of jazz tunes that Metheny admires, such as 'The Windup' by Jarrett and 'The Windup' by Jarrett.
