This album was recorded during his European tour from November to December 1979, when he performed at the Jazz Festival in Stuttgart, Germany, on December 3. The bass player is Mark Johnson, who had taken over the regular spot the year before, and the drummer is Joe LaBarbera, who was appointed as the fifth drummer in 1979 by a friend of Evans'.
