Los Tequila Cokes, a Tokyo-based Latin club band specializing in dance music. Their 4-song EP—which charted on Apple Music’s Top Latin Albums—is finally available on physical media! Heavily influenced by the psychedelic cumbia of Peru, Los Tequila Cokes are creating a Tokyo cumbia sensation at genre-defying live venues, primarily in Tokyo. With each member DJing on vinyl, they harbor a deep-rooted love and respect for cumbia and Latin music, while their “Psycho-Tropical Sound”—which strongly reflects influences from their respective musical roots, such as punk, hardcore, reggae, and dub—is truly one-of-a-kind. To date, they have independently released a demo CD-R and a 7-inch single. Led by Japan’s premier cumbia festival, the “JAPANCUMBIAFESTIVAL,” they are regulars at major cumbia parties across the country and also host their own parties on a regular basis. The bands they perform with span a wide range—not limited to cumbia and Latin music, but also including hard-hitting dub, underground roots reggae, ska, punk, hardcore, and even psychobilly—and they captivate audiences and get them dancing at every show. Already a staple of their live sets, these tracks charted on Latin Top Albums and Top Songs on Apple Music and other platforms upon their digital release in 2023. The four tracks, which many fans have been eagerly awaiting on physical media, are now set to be released as a 10-inch vinyl record. “Wani,” a hard-hitting psychedelic chi-chi track that epitomizes LTC; “Watari no Fune,” which is sprinkled with oriental phrases throughout and features the most sing-along-worthy chorus on the album; “BANANA” is sure to resonate with fans of dub, reggae, and psychedelic rock alike. The 10-inch record features all four tracks, including “Occult,” which is exceptionally catchy as a vocal track. The vinyl mastering was handled by E-MURA of BimOneProduction, who knows exactly how to balance the bass. This 10-inch record will send shivers down your spine—not just for selectors and DJs who want to blast it, but also for music lovers who aren’t familiar with cumbia or chicha.
