Description:
<The "Resurrection" with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Mahler's first recording for DG, is now included on one disc for the first time! New sound quality. The most recent reissue of Abbado's special work from the analog master tapes in his home country for this release! Abbado's first Mahler recording for DG, "Resurrection" with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, is now available as a SA-CD hybrid for the first time on the market! Until now, Mahler Nos. 4, 5, and 6 from Abbado's analog recording period have been released commercially on SA-CD single layer, but for some reason this No. 2 has not been issued. On the other hand, the SA-CD hybrid version of Mahler No. 4 was previously released in a coupling with No. 4 on a special SA-CD hybrid disc by Audio Planning, so this SA-CD hybrid version is the first release since then. The previous CDs and SHM-CDs were released as a 2-disc set, including both domestic and imported versions. This is the first time that the CDs and SHM-CDs have been released as a single disc. The sound quality has been completely renewed, as the master sound source used for this release was also created by going back to the mixing of the analog master tape in the home country, which was multi-recorded in 4 channels, creating a 2-channel master, and then using the latest mastering at Emil Berliner Studios (EBS) in Germany. The sound quality has been completely renewed. The first session recording of Mahler's works by Claudio Abbado (1933-2024), who was a member of the second generation and certainly a driving force behind the worldwide Mahler boom since the 1980s, was "Resurrection," recorded in 1976. The recording with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra is the first session recording of Mahler's "Resurrection" made with the orchestra in 1976. This recording with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra was made the year before he became Music Director of La Scala in Milan in 1972 and Artistic Director in 1977. He had already made guest appearances with major orchestras around the world and recorded for DG and DECCA, and his reputation as a promising young conductor was growing. Since then, he has been appointed to major posts in concert orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, where he has made even greater strides. The "Resurrection" attracted a lot of attention even though the orchestra had already recorded with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the DG, and was finally starting various recordings with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (Chief Guest Conductor in 1982-85), with which it has a good relationship. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, which had already become one of the world's leading orchestras at that time, had recorded Scholte and Mahler's 5th-8th symphonies in the 1970s, and was becoming increasingly popular as a virtuoso orchestra, especially with its super-strong brass ensemble including Herseth, Clevenger, and J. Friedman. The orchestra's strong brass ensemble, including Herseth, Clevenger, and J. Friedman, has earned the orchestra an outstanding reputation and popularity for its performances of Mahler's most difficult works, and many major Mahler recordings have been made by multiple conductors since then. Even in the analog recording era, DG recorded Giulini's No. 9 (two months after this recording by Abbado), Abbado also recorded Nos. 5 and 6 after "Resurrection," Levine's Nos. 3 and 4 for RCA, and Giulini's No. 1 for EMI, thus gaining unparalleled results as Mahler orchestra.
