[The two piano concertos by Chopin were composed in his Polish period, before he was active in Paris. Chopin was around 20 years old at the time, and was in the midst of his youth. The music straightforwardly conveys his hopes and longings, as well as a hint of anxiety and melancholy, and the listener cannot help but be reminded of the sweet and sour feelings of his youth. The performances by two female pianists of different types add interest. [Performances: 1) Isla Margalit, piano, New Philharmonia Orchestra, Lorin Maazel, conductor; 2) Alicia de Larrocha, piano, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Serge Comischona, conductor.
