The composer of the Olympic anthem, Samaras, returns with a light-hearted opera in Italian. The opera "Tigra" is a one-act work with an Italian text, and the performance time on this CD is just over 56 minutes. It is a love story set in medieval Venice, told in the style of early 20th century Italian opera. Fidetzis, the conductor of this disc, has rearranged the orchestral parts to make a full-fledged performance possible. It is a valuable and interesting work that traces the process of modernization of Greek music on the Western European model. The song cycle "Epinikeia (Song of Victory)" is an imposing work with a magnificent and profound orchestral part. The singing must also be powerful. The "Chitarata (Guitar)," composed in Paris and dedicated to his mother, is a charming three-and-a-half-minute piece with a unique sound that includes multiple guitars and mandolin, and a sense of both splendor and nostalgia.
