Description:
Hermann Goetz (1840-1876), a composer born in Germany and active in Switzerland, died young. Although he began his serious musical education rather late, at the age of 17, his musical talent was recognized by many, as he studied piano with Hans von Bülow and, with the encouragement of Carl Reinecke, was hired as the organist of the city of Winterthur. Although Goetz was familiar to some connoisseurs, with Mahler premiering several of his works, the recent revival boom has brought him gradually into the limelight. This album features his two piano concertos. The first, written when he was a student, is slightly in the style of Liszt and Wagner, but the second, written six years later, presents a more original style with a variety of experiments.
